Love and Other Drugs (2010)

Directed by Edward Zwick
Starring Jake Gyllenhaal and Anne Hathaway (Rated R)
2.5 stars (out of 4)
The script is sort of a mess. You're never quite certain of what the tone is supposed to be. At times is warm and lighthearted but will change suddenly to heavy drama about the darkest of subjects. The comedy wasnt terrible but sometimes its hard to laugh after you've just had a graphic description of how Parkinson's disease affects you in stage four. The saving grace is the acting. Its on point. Jake Gyllenhaal shows a lot of versatility in this role.
Ive never been a big fan of his but hes starting to show that range of talent that Ive always associated with his sister. Anne Hathaway has came a long way from the teeny-bopper roles she started with. She really plays a passionate role here, and it works. So despite the flawed script the lead actors have memorable performances. FYI this movie earns its R rating. That's not an issue to me but some will probably not be expecting the language and sex content based on the trailers.
