Street Poet (2010) A.K.A Fighting Words

 Directed by E. Paul Edwards
Runtime 92min. - Rated R
1 Star (out of 4)

Now available on DVD

Ginsberg, Burroughs, Kerouac rolling in their graves
A battle cry against repression turned into obscenity for its own sake
Morphed, distorted by pseudo-thespian bottom-dwellers, desperate for nickels and dimes
Longing for identity, trying on various shades of fashionable topics fit for low-budget dramatic television

Clichés look back at me like art reflected off fun house mirrors
A villain, a hero, a damsel, a tournament
Mr. Miyagi with breasts, counseling her pupil in the ways of poetic perversions
A demeaning contest, created to devalue the artistic merit of its losers

An inspiring work, but in all the wrong ways
Retired athletes showing more talent than their peers
Peers, who are classically trained, being put to shame
Creating visual feasts of stereotypes in high definition

Ninety minutes of poetry, some good some bad
Wasted, diluted like a single droplet in a sea of ineptitude
A black hole where time is devoured and space is left empty of light
My mind wanders as if it were an biological imperative for the maintenance of one's sanity

Criticism of something unfit for proper sentence structure
Unfit for consumption of intellectual persons
Decrypting the lines may be lengthy and tiresome
A sign reads, "Avoid at all costs." and sums it up nicely

  1. "Mr. Miyagi with breasts..."

God, that's an image I hoped would never enter my brain. Too late now!

    1. Lol. In a normal review, I would have pointed out that this movie has many similarities to Karate Kid. The plot is basically the same, except with poetry. So the Mr. Miyagi character in this one was a female, with aids. This film was about poetry, homophobia, cultural diversity, HIV awareness and many other things. Unfortunately it cheapened every topic it touched on.
